Art Instructions:

Supplies:
• Construction paper for background
• Crayons or Markders
• Ruler

Instructions:

Before the art project:
• Ask children to think of an image that they would love to see as a mural on a wall or building.
• Talk to them about the process of creating that image and then drawing a grid on the image, which then would be enlarged to fit the wall or building.

Now for the project:
• Children are to draw a small scale image or scene and color it in, just as they would like to see it on the wall or building. 9 x 12” or around that size.
• Have them use a ruler and create 1” x 1” block grid using a black marker over their artwork. See sample.
• Take a new sheet of paper, and draw a 3 or 4 block grid where each block is 4” x 4” or larger. (Simulate the act of enlarging it onto a wall or building.)
• Have children select an area on their original drawing and have them transfer the design into the larger blocks to see the effect and process of creating a large mural.
